Treasures.
Peru has extended the State of Emergency until the end of July. This will be the world’s longest lockdown to date. Today is the 107th day with another month to go.
Our ministry opportunities are easy to treasure.
We have been able to host youth group here twice this month for the young people that live on our 7km dirt road and a couple of others that made their way out between curfew hours. We love having a full house and these teenagers are a delight! The pool is getting more use as our neighbors come to celebrate their birthdays and just for some refreshment in these super hot days as we head straight into dry season! The families that have needed our help for sustenance during this quarantine still need our help. Thank you to those of you who give to make that possible!
This mission base is a treasure to steward.
Vann is still enjoying working on the dining room table, the never-ending base maintenance and planning the next projects when the stores open up again. He did get the steel ordered and delivered for the pavilion roof, so that project can move forward and be a blessing to every group and event that we host here!
Our children are our dearest treasures.
Corynn and Ethan are diligently working on their schoolwork for this summer quarter. We are very proud of their hard work especially with so little free time. Clara has become my right hand as we serve our family and friends without my mother or our house helper to keep things presentable!
What do you treasure?
Family, health, freedom? We have found that in these 100+… days of quarantine in the jungle that we actually care a bit more about silly things than we should – the joy of eating food that we don’t have to cook, the ability to go to the grocery store and actually find what we’re looking for, and then some not so silly things, like the freedom to travel, gather for worship, protecting our own health and that of our family. These things have pointed out our attachment to conveniences, relationships and health in this temporary physical life. They are not bad, but they should not be held as treasures in themselves. The joy we find in them should point us to the One that is our treasure as we humbly thank Him for these abundant blessings.
“This is how we glorify Christ: by treasuring Him above all that life can give, and all that death can take.” – John Piper
